Tuscan Plaster - a multi-layered texture faux finish

Faux Finishing is the art of creating painted illusions on wall and furniture surfaces.  By layering the paint, glaze and texture applications and using various tools, a wide variety of special effects can be achieved by an experienced artist.

European textures are becoming very popular in today's faux finish market. Mediterranean and Egyptian walls, architectural ornamentation and inlay stone or tile effects add a new and interesting dimension to interior spaces.

Tuscan Kitchen

The walls in this kitchen dining area were troweled with three shades of O'Villa Plaster, then a sheer glaze was applied using Stain N Seal mixed with Aquacreme.  The arched windows were accented with faux stone blocks, and a freeform grapevine stencil was added to add more interest to the decor and tie in with the handpainted tabletop.

These bedroom walls were sponged and mottled with four shades of an aqua blue paint.  A semi-circular stenciled pattern makes a soft impression above the doorways.

Sand tone and Terracotta glazes were blended together using brushes and softened with terry cloth.  This finish is ideal for a decor that is slightly rustic or with a southwest flavor.

Furniture Makeover

With priming and base coating, certain details were highlighted with light blue and metallic gold paint and transformed an old furniture piece.  A brown antiquing glaze was brushed on and wiped off with cheesecloth to create a streaked, aged effect.
